Submission Guidelines

Published fiction and nonfiction authors (whose names have appeared in Books in Print and who have sold more than 5,000 copies of a given book) are encouraged to submit their entire manuscripts (excluding poetry, memoirs, children’s/young adult, short stories, or screenplays) directly to The Gislason Agency. Other authors must query first.

Please note that synopses or outlines will not be returned. We do not accept e-mailed submissions of any kind.

The Gislason Agency responds to most queries within 30 days and manuscript submissions within 90 days. If more time than this has passed, please send us an e-mail for a status update.

Submission Guidelines: Fiction

Published Fiction Authors
If you are a published author and have sold more than 5,000 copies, send:
1. The first three chapters, or
2. Your complete manuscript,
3. A 5-10-page synopsis, and
4. A self-addressed, stamped envelope.

Unpublished Fiction Authors
If you have already completed your manuscript, please send:
1. A cover letter,
2. A 5-10-page synopsis,
3. The first three chapters, and
4. A self-addressed, stamped envelope.

Submission Guidelines: Nonfiction

Published Nonfiction Authors
If you are a published author and you and have sold more than 5,000 copies of a book, or and if you wish to submit work to The Gislason Agency, please send us:
1. A proposal as set forth above,
2. Your complete manuscript, if available, and
3. A self-addressed, stamped envelope.

Unpublished Nonfiction Writers
If you are an unpublished author, please send us your complete proposal, including
1. A cover letter describing your background,
2. A table of contents,
3. A detailed outline,
4. The first three chapters,
5. A market analysis and description of intended audience, and
6. A self-addressed, stamped envelope.

Clearly differentiate how your book is different from others in print on a similar subject. Also include a well-thought-out marketing plan.
