Nationally acclaimed mystery writer Deborah Woodworth is the author of
the
five-volume Shaker Mystery series (with the sixth book, "The Dancing
Dead," to be released in March of 2002) and the creator of its beloved
detective, Sister Rose Callahan. "Publisher's Weekly" called
the series "First-rate;
warmhearted, richly detailed, and completely enthralling," and her
work has
also received glowing reviews in "Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine,"
The
Denver Post, "The Historical Novels Review," The Minneapolis
Star Tribune, The San Francisco Chronicle & Examiner, and The St.
Paul Pioneer Press, among many others. In her writing, Ms. Woodworth has
used her academic background (she has a doctorate in the sociology of
religion) and research skills to bring her stories to life, and to provide
a vivid look into the fascinating history, theology, and lifestyle of
rural Kentucky's Shaker community. One real-life Shaker indicated
to Ms. Woodworth that "the Shakers feel about the Sister Rose books
the way the Benedictines feel about Brother Cadfael--they can't wait for
the next one." Ms. Woodworth is published by Harper Collins
Publishers, and her Editor is Patricia Lande Grader, Executive Editor,
Morrow/Avon. Ms. Woodworth lives and writes in New Brighton, Minnesota.
